Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 10, 2016) – Hopefully the bad luck is out of the way for Trey Starks, who ran into mechanical problems during his qualifying attempt on Sunday at the Capitani Classic.
Starks sharply pulled into the pits exiting turn four and he scratched from the remainder of the night at Knoxville Raceway, where he was set to get one final test with car owner Jeff McCall before the sport’s biggest race of the season this week.
“It’s certainly not how you want to head into the Knoxville Nationals, but I’m glad we ran into a mechanical problem on Sunday versus on our preliminary night,” he said.
Starks is slated to return to the half-mile oval this Wednesday through Saturday for the 56th annual 5-Hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals.
“I’m glad to get back to Knoxville Raceway and to the Knoxville Nationals,” he said. “It’s a big challenge, but I think we have as good of a shot to make the Saturday A Main as ever.”
Starks has recorded six wins this season, including one with McCall, and he posted a 14th-place finish at Knoxville Raceway during his season debut there on July 30.
“We definitely learned some things that night,” he said. “It’s a bummer we didn’t get an opportunity to learn more during the Capitani Classic, but I do feel confident in our race package.”
His best finish at the event was a 16th-place result in the C Main in 2012.
