Inside Line Promotions – BRITT, Iowa (Aug. 2, 2016) – Brandon Hanks had a solid showing during his National Sprint League debut last Sunday at Hancock County Speedway.
Hanks, who was making only his second career start with a 410ci engine, timed in 18th quickest during qualifying before he advanced from sixth to fifth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the eighth row for the main event.
“We started out off a little bit,” he said. “We didn’t have the car in the race track like it needed to be. It took me a few laps to get adjusted. We got better as the night went on.”
Hanks was involved in a spin in turn two on the second lap, but he rebounded from the back to score an 11th-place result. It was his best finish in a 410 and earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.
“The track took rubber around the bottom and the only way you’d pass someone is if they made a mistake,” he said. “I was just there to get some laps and work on getting used to the 410. I got a full night in. I learned a lot and got more comfortable. We made some passes and I think we progressed nicely as the night went on.”
Last weekend began on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa. Unfortunately, mechanical problems plagued the team throughout the night.
“I didn’t get as many laps in as I wanted,” he said. “The engine wasn’t running right the whole night. We finally got it figured out and the car ran good in the B Main. By that point we hadn’t worked on the car all night. I didn’t really get a good test session for the 360 Knoxville Nationals.”
Hanks qualified 19th quickest in his group, didn’t finish the heat race and ended eighth in the B Main.
He will return to the half-mile oval this Thursday through Saturday for the 26th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals.
