Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (July 19, 2016) – It had been nearly three months since Cody Freeman raced his 600cc non-wing micro sprint before his return to racing last weekend.
Freeman was a bit apprehensive at the beginning of the night on Saturday at Superbowl Speedway, but after hot laps and his Driven Midwest NOW600 National Micro Series presented by MyRacePass heat race he felt at ease.
“It took a little to get the feel back, but by the feature it felt like I had just raced last week,” he said.
In his heat race Freeman advanced a spot to finish fourth. He missed the redraw for the feature line-up by only one spot. That lined him up ninth on the feature grid.
“The track rubbered up big time by the feature,” he said. “It was scary. We had like three reds and a bunch of cautions. We were so tight I was doing wheel stands all the way down the straights. I was waiting to just flip over. I made a few mistakes, but considering the team and I have not raced in three months I am more than happy with the results.”
Freeman maneuvered to a seventh-place finish.
“I want to thank everyone that helped over the off period and to everyone who has supported me along the way,” he said. “I know this isn’t a normal racing year for me. I had an absolute blast being back at the track.”
Freeman will potentially return to action August 5-6 at Sweet Springs Motorsports Complex in Sweet Springs, Mo., with the Driven Midwest NOW600 National Micro Series presented by MyRacePass.
