PETERSEN MEDIA: A grueling week of racing in the state of Ohio culminated with Paul McMahan running 14th during the 33rd Annual Kings Royal.
“Our week started out decent at the Brad Doty Classic with us running ninth, then we struggled the first two night’s at Eldora,” McMahan said. “We came out on Saturday night and put it in the show, and ended up finishing 15th.”
Checking in at the Attica Raceway Park last Tuesday night, McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports team would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Rick Rogers Construction No. 7 machine in 10th fastest in their time trial group.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, McMahan would finish in the third spot and transfer into the 40-lap Brad Doty Classic feature event. Lining up in the 14th starting position, McMahan was able to work his way forward on the slicked off surface.
With multiple grooves available for the drivers, McMahan would work his way forward to finish in the ninth spot to open up a busy week.
Heading to the Eldora Speedway for the three-night King’s Royal weekend, McMahan and company would struggle on Thursday and Friday night. Unable to make it into either feature event, the Nashville, TN driver would finish 10th during the B main each of the first two nights.
Saturday night saw McMahan and company poised to improve. Timing in 22nd fastest among the 60 cars checked into the pit area, McMahan would finish second in his heat race to Donny Schatz and successfully lock himself into the 40-lap feature event.
Lining up in the fifth row for the Kings Royal feature event, McMahan would battle for Top-10 position in the early goings of the feature event, before slipping back to the 14th spot, where he would go on to finish.
“14th at a big race like that is not what we were gunning for, but after the struggles we had early in the weekend we will take it,” McMahan said. “We have another busy week in front of us and we will see what we can do.”
