SAPULPA, Okla. (July 11, 2016) Blake Hahn has had speed, just hasn’t had the luck, but this past weekend, it all came together as Hahn captured back-to-back wins in the Randash Auto Center Grizzly Nationals at the Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont. with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
Bringing his overall win count on the year to four, the most impressive part of the win, the trophy presenter, as Hahn was greeted in Victory Lane by Adam; a 900lbs Grizzly Bear with a taste for Twix.
“I’m was nervous at first, but once Adam got to the car, it was just a thrill. To be that close to a live Grizzly Bear, with really nothing between you and him, that’s just something that you never think you’ll be able to do and getting to do it twice, I don’t know if there will be a win that tops this except maybe the Chili Bowl,” said Hahn about the weekend and having Adam the Grizzly Bear present him his trophies.
Leading every lap the Lucas Oil / Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 was scheduled to contest at the Montana oval, Hahn made gains in the 2016 tour standings as well, moving to third from fifth to third in driver standings. The wins were just what the team needed, especially coming off a rough outing at the Grays Harbor Raceway last weekend.
“The car was perfect both nights after it felt like we pretty much had to rebuild the car after Elma. The engine was off, wouldn’t run, was overheating plus we hit the wall and knocked the geometry out so this really makes all the work worthwhile. My Dad and Dalton did a fantastic job and I have to thank Colton Heath at Triple X Chassis for helping us out with getting the front of the car fixed.”
Challenged by Sam Hafertepe, Jr. the entire weekend, Hahn was on the wheel to keep the current National Tour point’s leader at bay.
“I knew if I screwed up, Sam was going to get me. At one point on Friday, I thought he had me. I pushed through the top of three and four with two to go I think, and I could hear him. On Saturday, we knew the track was going to take rubber. We just didn't know when so we set the car up to work with or without it. My goal was to just get the jump and hold on until it came in. After that, it was just getting through traffic without messing up and getting crashed. I just told myself to put everyone else out of my head and run my race.”
Blake Hahn will return to action at the “Rushmore Rumble” at the Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, S.D. on Friday, July 22 and Saturday, July 23 with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network.
