SAPULPA, Okla. (July 7, 2016) A little “Thursday Night Thunder” to kick off the 2016 ASCS Sooner Sweep produced a first time winner with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products as Drumright, Oklahoma’s Fred Mattox parked his No. 26m in Victory Lane for a $2,000 payday at the Creek County Speedway.
Overall, Fred Mattox is the 13th different winner with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, and is the third first time winner in 2016 with the Oklahoma based region.
Rolling from the pole of Thursday’s ASCS Red River Region showdown, Mattox held off the charge of Layne Himebaugh through several restarts. Able to close the gap in the final laps, Mattox was able to keep the No. 24 at bay; beating out Himebaugh by 0.592 seconds.
Coming from 10th, Broken Arrow’s Alex Sewell worked to third with Tony Bruce, Jr. crossing fourth. Hard charging from the 21st starting spot, Kyle Clark wheeled his way to a fifth place finish.
From 15th, Kyle Bellm clawed to sixth with Will Scribner climbing 13 spots to finish seventh. Kade Morton was eighth with Kyle Chady from 17th to ninth. Jared Sewell completed the top-ten.
The 2016 Sooner Sweep continues on Friday, July 8 at the Outlaw Motor Speedway, located just south of Muskogee, Okla.
Leading up to Friday’s action, the American Bank of Oklahoma in Muskogee will have a Car Show with the cars and stars of the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Red River Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. (CDT). Racing at the Outlaw Motor Speedway gets underway at 8:00 P.M. (CDT).
