Inside Line Promotions – CHICO, Calif. (May 2, 2016) – Chase Johnson put together a solid night last Saturday at Silver Dollar Speedway during the 26th annual Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial with the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series.
Johnson, who was driving for Shawn and Cyndi Thomas, opened the event by qualifying 18th quickest around the quarter-mile bullring. That was only two spots out of making the heat race inversion.
“We didn’t qualify as well as we wanted to,” he said. “I had a pretty good heat race and really didn’t want to be in the B Main. I made some aggressive moves to put us in contention to make the main event and that’s exactly what we did.”
Johnson advanced from fifth to fourth place in his heat race to lock into the main event, where he started on the inside of the eighth row.
“The feature went green to checkered with no yellows,” he said. “It was difficult to make some moves. I fell back a couple of positions, gained a few and fell back a couple. We were a little too tight. The track had a little more moisture than we were expecting. The car was great at the end, but we needed it to be better throughout the whole race.”
Johnson battled just outside the top 10 for most of the race before ending 14th.
He is scheduled to return to action at Petaluma Speedway in Petaluma, Calif., this Saturday with the King of the West.
“I’m really excited to race at my home track,” he said. “I love the five-minute drive to the track. Plus, we have a great group of fans at Petaluma and my family will be able to make it. It should be a great night.”
