Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (April 26, 2016) – Josh Baughman recorded his career-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result last weekend during the Texas Outlaw Nationals.
“We had speed for sure,” he said. “For being with the Outlaws I feel like we had a pretty good weekend overall.”
Baughman qualified a career-best fourth on Friday to kick off the doubleheader at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. He then finished where he started – second – in a heat race to lock into his first career dash with the series.
Unfortunately, the car became tough to handle for the remainder of the night. Baughman placed sixth in the dash and he faded early in the main event.
“We struggled a little bit racing in dirty air,” he said. “We had some issues and had to pull off at one point. I had to go to the work area. We got a little better, but we still struggled. We’ve got to get better in dirty air with the 410.”
Baughman ended with an 18th-place result.
He returned to the half-mile oval on Saturday, when he timed in 15th quickest during qualifying before advancing from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the $20,000-to-win main event.
“I felt like we had a top-10 car,” he said. “We had a caution when we didn’t need it and we still struggled in dirty air.”
Baughman scored a 13th-place finish, which was his best result with the series.
“That’s great for us racing with the World of Outlaws,” he said. “Knowing that we have that much speed and we’re competitive at that level, I think it’ll make it easier when we return to 360 stuff.”
Baughman will take this weekend off before resuming action on May 5 at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
