Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (April 19, 2016) – White Lightning Motorsports had a strong start to the Knoxville Raceway season last Saturday when Jamie Ball and Devin Kline each registered a top-five finish during the season opener at the half-mile oval.
“It was a great effort for both of us,” Ball said. “We were both consistently fast every time we hit the track.”
Ball qualified third quickest and he advanced from sixth to fourth place during a heat race in the 360ci class.
“The night started off great,” he said. “Our goal this year is to be consistent every time we hit the track. I feel excellent about the qualifying result. I went in the first lap and missed the bottom. On the second lap I nailed the top as best I could.
“Then we moved forward in the heat race. I had a nice start and spent most of the race racing with Kade Higday for third. He raced good and clean so he earned my respect.”
The feature inversion lined Ball up on the outside of the second row for the main event.
“I didn’t get the greatest start,” he said. “(Clint) Garner got around me right away. I was able to get my wing pulled back and the car locked down and found a nice line to run the bottom. We got by a couple of cars toward the end to get a top five, which is what we need.”
Ball recorded a fifth-place result.
Kline kicked off the night in the 305ci class by setting quick time during qualifying. He then charged from sixth to second place in a heat race. A six-car inversion for the main event lined him up on the outside of the third row, but he quickly maneuvered toward the top spot.
Kline was running second on the last lap and was within striking distance of the leader in traffic entering turn three, but a caution came out to set up a green-white-checkered finish.
“I spun my tires on the restart and then slid out of the groove in turns one and two and lost a spot,” he said. “Overall I think it was a good opening night. Every time we hit the track we went forward so we have to be happy with that. It was one of the slicker tracks we’ll probably see all season. I’m a little bummed with myself, but if this is what I’m bummed about I’ll take that.”
Kline ended with a third-place finish.
The team will return to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday.
