Inside Line Promotions – STOCKTON, Calif. (March 23, 2016) – Trey Starks is hopeful that he will get back on the right track following the FVP Western Spring Shootout last weekend.
Starks and his team found a mechanical problem that has hampered the team throughout the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series swing throughout the West.
“We’ve been having some engine problems throughout the whole swing,” he said. “That has been hurting us the whole time. The good thing is after last weekend we figured it out and we can move forward.”
Last weekend’s doubleheader at the Stockton Dirt Track began on Friday with Starks qualifying 17th quickest. He then finished seventh in a heat race, which put him on the pole of the Last Chance Showdown.
“We ended up winning the Last Chance Showdown,” he said. “Our car is really good in clean air. We ran almost just as fast as the winner of the dash. It’s nice to know you have speed like that. Unfortunately, when we get to racing it’s really hard to stay smooth and stay consistent with the mechanical problem we had.”
Starks started toward the back of the main event and he battled for a top 20 throughout the feature before ending 22nd.
Saturday featured a similar story as Starks timed in 21st quickest during qualifying, placed eighth in a heat race and finished fifth in the Last Chance Showdown to transfer into the back of the main event.
“We were good early,” he said. “We passed a handful of cars and were around 15th. As the race went on the car got more erratic and harder to drive. On a slick track that just can’t happen and we let a few cars get by us.”
Starks capped the weekend with a 21st-place result.
He will take this weekend off before returning to competition April 1-2 at Central Washington State Fair Speedway in Yakima, Wash., with the Summer Thunder Sprint Series.
