PETERSEN MEDIA: When things are not going your way, it is very easy for morale to fade. Paul McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports team are continuing to stay positive as they work hard at achieving better results.
“It is tough right now, but everyone is working so hard to fight through what has been a rough start,” Paul McMahan said. “I think we hit on some things over the weekend in Stockton, CA, and I made a mistake on Saturday night that hurt us a bit.”
Checking in at the Stockton Dirt Track for the FVP Western Spring Shootout over the weekend, McMahan opened the weekend up by timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply & Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine in 16th fastest.
Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Nashville, TN driver would finish in the fourth spot and move into the 30-lap feature event where he gridded the field from the eighth row.
Early in the feature, McMahan was able to work his way forward as he battled with Kerry Madsen, Jason Sides, and Daryn Pittman, for position just outside of the Top-10.
A late restart would see McMahan get forced out of the groove and he would lose a few positions and drop back to the 16th running position, where he would wind up finishing.
Back to work on Saturday night in Stockton, CA, McMahan would lay down the 12th fastest lap in qualifying time trials, and find himself in the fourth starting spot of his heat race.
Getting off to a nice start, McMahan would challenge for the 2 and third position, but would hit the cushion wrong in turns one and two, and get his machine out of shape and bring out the caution.
Restarting form the tail end of the field, a ninth place finish would put the Elk Grove, CA native on the front row of the Last Chance Showdown. Getting out to the early lead of the LCS McMahan would show some strength as he held off Shane Stewart and Brad Sweet for much of the race before falling to second in the final laps, but still transferring into the A Main.
Lining up in the 10th row of the Feature, McMahan would find himself in a heated battle with Jonathan Allard, DJ Netto and Shane Stewart as they raced in a tight knit pack. On a lap eight restart, McMahan would bring out a caution and head to the work area, and would restart form the 24th starting position.
Over a 22-lap green flag run on the high-speed Stockton Dirt Track, McMahan would pick up a couple of positions as he closed his weekend out with a 19th place finish.
“Saturday night we got off to a good start, and I got a little antsy in our heat race seeing a Dash spot in our grasps,” McMahan said. “I made a mistake trying to make something happen and it cost our race team. I feel like we had some positives from Stockton, and will hopefully build on those for Placerville.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, FK Rod Ends, Walker Performance Filtration, KSE Racing Products, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their continued support.
