Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (Feb. 23, 2016) – Cody Freeman showcased improvement throughout his outdoor season-opening weekend.
Freeman got better every time he hit the track last Friday and Saturday at Superbowl Speedway, where he did double duty racing with the Winged ‘A’ Class and Stock Non-Wing divisions with the NOW600 National Micro Series presented by MyRacePass.
“It went pretty good,” he said. “We had some ups and downs. The weekend was pretty much just knocking the rust off.”
Freeman did just that beginning on Friday in the Winged ‘A’ Class. He advanced from third to second place to lock into the main event, which he started on the outside of the fifth row.
“It was a long race,” he said. “I really wasn’t up to speed and was still trying to get used to the car. I worked on trying to put together consistent laps and we got better as the race went on.”
Freeman ended with a 15th-place result.
He followed that up the ensuing night by charging from fifth to win a Winged ‘A’ Class heat race.
“It played out pretty good,” he said. “I got most of the cars on the start going into turn one. Then the leader and I battled for three or four laps. I drove it in real hard coming out of turn four and passed him in the middle of the race.”
That locked Freeman into the feature redraw, where he pulled the highest number – eight – to start the main event on the outside of the fourth row.
“In the first three or four laps I fell back to about 15th,” he said. “It finally clicked and I started working my way back up. My car was able to work well pretty much anywhere.”
Freeman rallied to post a ninth-place finish, which marked his first top 10 of the season.
Freeman enjoyed the same level of growth throughout the weekend in the Stock Non-Wing class. On Friday he placed seventh in a heat race and ninth in a B Main as the team fought handling issues.
However, Freeman picked up his results on Saturday in the class by finishing fifth in a heat race and fourth in a B Main to miss transferring into the main event by only one position.
Freeman will return to action March 4-5 at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, with the NOW600 National Micro Series presented by MyRacePass.
