The Bumper To Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series will celebrate their 50th anniversary season in 2016. Formed in 1967 as the Interstate Racing Association, the group began as a Modified tour running up and down the I-94 corridor between Milwaukee and Chicago, thus the Interstate reference. The group expanded to Super Mods prior to switching over to Sprint Cars about thirty-five years ago. Times have certainly changed over the years, and as the cars changed so did the club, as that structure has changed too as the group is now Interstate Racing Association, Inc. The IRA has sanctioned events in WI, IL, IA, MI, IN, MN, OH and ND over that span, though ironically has come full circle with this current regional trend in Sprint Car racing, focusing primarily in Wisconsin and northern Illinois currently. There is a ton of a history within the IRA and much will be shared and remembered during this anniversary season which kicks off April 16th with a co-sanctioned event with our friends to the south, MOWA, at the highbanked quarter-mile LaSalle Speedway (located off I-39, one exit south of I-80). Fifty years of chasing down the Interstate!
