Inside Line Promotions – FORNEY, Texas (Feb. 8, 2016) – Travis Rilat is aiming for his third straight triumph during the Tyson Perez Memorial this weekend at Borderline Speedway.
Rilat will spend the week in Australia prior to Saturday’s event, which honors his longtime friend who passed away in 2010.
“It’s just nice they keep the tradition going to honor Tyson,” he said. “It will be fun to visit some friends and Tyson’s family. And hopefully we can make it a repeat. He would expect nothing less than a win.”
Rilat has won each of the last two editions. Once again he will return to the familiar sprint car owned by George Smetona with Phil Seymour serving as the crew chief.
“We have a good combination there,” Rilat said. “The track seems to be fitting to my driving style. The competition will be tough so we’ll just have to work a little harder.”
Rilat set quick time during qualifying and placed second and sixth during twin heat races last year. That lined him up third for the start of the 31-lap feature. He took the top spot approximately a quarter of the way through the race and cruised to the triumph.
Rilat led all 31 laps during the 2014 feature to garner his first win at the special event.
