Inside Line Promotions – CONCORD, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2015) – Dominic Scelzi capped his sprint car season last weekend during the Bad Boy Buggies World of Outlaws World Finals.

Scelzi piloted a sprint car for Danny and George Lasoski, with the help of Phil Durst and Lincoln Auto Auction, during the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series season finale at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“I’m happy with the way it went,” he said. “That was the stoutest field I’ve ever been a part of and that was the trickiest track I’ve ever raced on. I felt like we had a lot of speed.”

Scelzi opened the weekend last Thursday by qualifying 18th quickest for Friday’s event and 15th for Saturday’s program, which ended up being postponed one day because of weather.

“We didn’t qualify particularly well,” he said. “Then when it was rough like it was on Friday, a lot of times at home (in California) you aren’t able to get above the cushion. In Charlotte the way to be fast was to be four wheels above the cushion. That was something I wasn’t used to and takes time to figure out how to make it work. Once I did I seemed to be pretty fast.”

Scelzi quickly advanced from his sixth starting position to pass Joey Saldana for third place during a heat race.

“We raced with Joey pretty hard and unfortunately he got back around us and we ended up running fourth,” he said after missing a lock-in position by only one spot.

That relegated Scelzi to the C Main, where he was caught up in an opening lap incident that bent his front end. He was unable to finish the consolation race.

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with Scelzi running into another difficult situation early. Scelzi stopped on the track with what he thought was front end damage after spinning around while running fourth with only a couple of laps remaining in his heat race. Officials deemed he stopped to force a caution and disqualified him. That lined Scelzi up on the outside of the fifth row for the Last Chance Showdown.

“It was really slick off the cushion and you had to be buried in the cushion to do anything,” he said. “We got stopped up behind a couple of guys. I wasn’t able to get around them as quick as I would have liked and in the end that’s what cost us.”

Scelzi placed ninth in the race to miss a transfer by only three positions.

“I’m extremely grateful to Danny and George Lasoski for the opportunity,” he said. “A big thanks goes to Phil Durst, his family and Lincoln Auto Auction for their support as well. It was a great weekend and we learned a lot.”
