Brady Bacon – Runner-up Finish at Richard Griffin Classic!

(Bill W) November 11, 2015 – Brady Bacon and the Josh Ford #73B team improved steadily last weekend during the three-day Richard Griffin Classic at Southern New Mexico Speedway near Las Cruces, New Mexico. The weekend culminated in a second place finish Saturday night for the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver. He’ll be back in the Hoffman Racing #69 this weekend in California for the three-day Perris Oval Nationals.

Thursday’s opener in Las Cruces started shaky. “We kind of struggled the first night,” says Brady. “We turned over in the Qualifier. We had to scramble and get everything back together.”

Starting nineteenth in the feature, he would charge into the top ten. “It was pretty heavy and hard to pass,” says Brady. “We managed to get back up to ninth. That kind of saved what could have been a very bad night.”

Brady finished third in both the heat and Qualifier on Friday before starting inside row six for the main event. “We were a little bit better on Friday,” he says. “The track was a little different. We just got too tight for the feature. We had actually gotten up to third at one point. We were just too tight in the feature and couldn’t race very well up there. We ended up fourth after a DQ.”

He would culminate enough points to make Saturday’s Dash. He would finish fifth and start inside row three for the finale. “We had a really good car in the feature,” says Brady. “We had made changes throughout the weekend. We made the car quite a bit better than we had before. We were able to pick our way forward. We actually got side by side for the lead a couple times. We just couldn’t quite make the pass.”

The second place finish was a nice cap to the weekend. “It was definitely a steady improvement over the weekend,” says Brady. “It was definitely still good pay for second. Hat’s off to the track for paying out well through the field.”

Brady is looking forward to getting back into the #69 for Perris Auto Speedway this Thursday. “We’ve run well there the past couple years, so we’ll see how it goes,” he says. “It’s kind of a long weekend. You have to run well the first two nights to put yourself in position to win on Saturday.”
