Inside Line Promotions – FINDLAY, Ohio (Oct. 27, 2015) – Caleb Helms reorganized his priorities during a trying 2015 season.
“There’s still a lot more to learn and I also realized being a race car driver doesn’t define who I am,” he said. “I am complete in Jesus’s love for me. I think we got back to seeing the main thing being to enjoy what we are doing. We do a lot better when we’re doing that.”
Helms chased points with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions for the first two thirds of the season before the combination of a truck problem and busy work schedules forced the team to adjust the amount of racing during the final months.
“My higher priorities required more of my time,” he said. “I got to be at the top of my game at times this year. When we were prepared we had some of my best runs.”
Helms earned a pair of podium finishes, including a runner-up result at Path Valley Speedway Park in Spring Run, Pa.
“Actually the races I ran right before Path Valley at Williams Grove Speedway (in Mechanicsburg, Pa.) and at Port Royal Speedway (in Port Royal, Pa.) stand out,” he said. “Racing with those guys, we got to make some really good laps, some of my best laps ever. To me that’s important. I really love racing in Central Pennsylvania. That was cool to feel up to speed like that.”
Helms said his favorite race of the year was at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio, in July with the All Stars. Helms ended with a third-place result after being involved in a battle for the lead throughout the race.
“Sharon was definitely my favorite one of the year,” he said. “That was awesome to just put the whole night together. We were in the top tier in hot laps. We went out in qualifying and blew our group away and then moved forward in the heat race and the dash. Also, to beat Dale Blaney at his home track and to be there competing with the leaders was great.”
Helms is unsure of what his 2016 schedule will look like, but he added that it will likely be a pick-and-choose type depending on his work load.
“I want to thank my dad, my grandpa, Cody Wilson and Jim Roby as well as all of my sponsors, family and fans for their support this season,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to next year.”
