Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (Oct. 25, 2015) – Tony Bruce Jr. will wrap up his season and possibly his career as a sprint car owner this week at the 28th annual Comp Cams Short Track Nationals.
Bruce Jr. will compete at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., on Wednesday during the Short Track Nationals Open before his qualifying night on Thursday at the quarter-mile bullring. Saturday concludes the $15,000-to-win Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.
“Short Track Nationals is always a huge weekend,” he said. “It’s been a big weekend for me in my career. It’s something that will always be synonymous with my name as far as sprint car racing goes. As far as emotionally, the atmosphere, it’s such a huge race. Everyone looks forward to it.”
The One 8 Motorsports driver is one of only three drivers – along with Steve Kinser and Gary Wright – to win the marquee event in back to back years (2008 and 2009).
“You just go out there and give it 100 percent every time you touch the race track,” he said. “We’ve had years where everything goes your way and we’ve had years there where you have an uphill battle. There’s so many races that matter for points and so many cars. It takes one little thing to take you out of it.”
Short Track Nationals will mark the final weekend that Bruce Jr. will own a sprint car team, at least in the foreseeable future, he said. His current inventory is sold and while Bruce Jr. plans to compete at the Chili Bowl next January with his midget, his sprint car racing career might be over following this weekend’s Short Track Nationals.
“If we win it, great,” he said “If we don’t then we know we gave it our best effort. There is no expectation. We’re just going to have fun.”
