PETERSEN MEDIA: The Destiny Motorsports team, and David Gravel put a frustrating National Open behind them, and went on to run fourth with the World of Outlaws at the Rolling Wheels Speedway after leading laps early in the race.
“After a tough trip to PA, it was great to come out and run so well at Rolling Wheels,” David Gravel said. “We were pretty good, but just faded a bit at the end, but we were still able to score a really nice top-five finish.”
Timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine in sixth fastest, Gravel was able to work his way forward to win his heat race, and earn a spot in the night’s Dash.
With the Dash Draw going his way, Gravel would find himself on the pole of the race alongside Donny Schatz. Getting the jump, Gravel would set a nice pace as he led every lap and picked up the win giving him the pole position for the 25-lap A Main event.
Withstanding some early stoppages, Gravel was able to run up front though Schatz and Brad Sweet would not let him get away as he took a liking to the low side of the speedway.
As the race neared the halfway point, Schatz was able to cut into his second a half lead, and create a battle for the race lead. On the 13th lap, Schatz would find an opening under Gravel’s machine exiting turn two and take the lead.
Now in second, Gravel would go to the top in turns three and four as he looked to get back by Schatz, and this would allow Brad Sweet to close in on the Watertown, CT driver.
Able to fend off the challenge, Gravel would hold down the second spot as the battle for position intensified. Racing wheel-to-wheel with Sweet, Gravel would see Sweet get under him on the 16th lap as he continued to run in the Top-three.
When the checkered flag flew on the race, Gravel would come home with a fourth place finish as Pittman was able to sneak by with just a couple of laps remaining.
“We definitely wanted to win this race for Rick and Barb Rogers, but we just couldn’t hold the 15 car off,” Gravel said. “I have to thank my crew for their hard work all night, as well as the Rogers’ for sticking with us and continuing to support.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Benic Enterprises, Rick Rogers Construction, Maxim Chassis, Boss Signs and Graphics, Rod End Supply, Driver Websites, Petersen Media, GME Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt, Simpson Race Products, Parker Engines, Keizer Wheels, DMI, Red Devil Brakes, Champion Oil, All Pro Cylinder Heads, Astro Titanium, and Hoosier Tire for their support in 2015.
