Oswego Speedway Statement on Saturday’s Supermodified Penalty Assessment

OSWEGO, NY (August 19, 2024) - Oswego Speedway would like to clarify the penalty assessed to the 95 Supermodified team on Saturday, August 17th.

On Tuesday, August 13th, the Competition Committee was presented with FloRacing victory lane footage from June 8th and August 10th for review. The Committee spent hours thoroughly examining the video. On Friday, August 16th, the 95 team’s owner and driver were brought to the Speedway office to explain their actions in victory lane. Then, on Saturday morning, August 17th, the Committee conducted an extensive inspection of the car at the team’s shop to ensure no details were overlooked, particularly since a team had never been penalized based solely on video footage before.

The Committee’s determination was based on the June 8th and August 10th videos, which clearly showed a team member working on or making an adjustment to the rear wing in victory lane before the car was sent to the scales for final tech inspection. In accordance with the rulebook’s provisions found on page 2 which states there are several options for penalties, the decision was made to assess a 40-point penalty to the 95 team prior to Saturday's race.

Moving forward, Oswego Speedway officials have implemented a new procedure: positions 2nd through 5th will now go directly to the scales after the checkered flag falls, while only the winner will proceed to victory lane. After the victory lane celebration, the winner will then go to the scales, and 2nd and 3rd place finishers will be invited into victory lane for interviews.

Oswego Speedway takes pride in its tech procedures, which go above and beyond the standards of any other short track or racing organization across all three divisions.
