The Race of Champions will be the proud presenter of the Rod Spalding Classic 75 for the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Series the Tribute to Ed McGuire 51 for the Race of Champions Super Stock Series along with the debut of the Race of Champions T.Q. Midget Series at the Chemung (N.Y.) Speedrome on Saturday, August 3.

The Modified Series will once again compete in the Rod Spalding Classic honor of the late and great driver, whose injuries spurred the development of the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers, headed by Betty Sherwood.

The Super Stock Series race is a special event with the second annual “Tribute to Ed McGuire”. McGuire’s career spanned several seasons in the Late Model category at Shangri-La Speedway. The race will be a $1,000-to-win Super Stock special.

Bryan Sherwood of Owego, N.Y., comes into the Modified portion of the event looking to honor Rod Spalding.

“This night is a big deal for all of us,” stated Sherwood. “There is more to this night than just racing as we honor several fallen heroes and bring the drivers and personalities back to prominence and give them the opportunity to be reunited and have a night that’s about them while we compete on the track. We’re all looking forward to it.”

The Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers will not only host their traditional auction but is also presenting a Drivers Reunion for racing personalities that competed and officiated at the Shangri-La Speedway and Chemung Speedrome.

The Race of Champions T.Q. Midget Series will make its debut as part of this special event, giving T.Q. Midget racers from throughout the region another opportunity to compete and the T.Q.’s only appearance at Chemung this season.
